The patient must prevent and follow special care in the days after endodontics to achieve the best result. Vasaldora Clínica Dental specialists will inform you about the procedure and how to proceed later to avoid possible infection or discomfort.
Endodontics is one of the most common treatments at Vasaldora Dental Clinic. It is usually performed when the tooth is affected by deep decay, trauma, or an endoperiodontal injury. Its main objective is to avoid the extraction of the tooth, thus protecting the tooth itself, the gum and the bone.
At Vasaldora we have a team in each dental area. Dr. Elena Candel is an endodontist, an expert in the maintenance of teeth through endodontic therapy.
This dental treatment works removing part or all of the pulp of the affected tooth, where the nerves and blood vessels are located. This allows to treat the infection, inflammation and necrosis of the tooth, which is caused by a very deep caries, trauma or endo-periodontal injuries. It will be necessary to reconstruct the piece in one way or another, depends on the degree of destruction of the tissue: crowns, inlays or composite reconstructions. Endodontics are performed under local anesthesia, so it is not painful at all.
In the days after endodontics, it is essential to maintain a series of care to take extreme precautions and avoid any affectation:
Reduce chewing
Until the tooth is completely and definitively restored, it is recommended to reduce chewing with that tooth. This will help prevent contamination of the inside of the tooth and can also prevent it from breaking before it is 100% restored. After a root canal, you may experience pain when chewing for up to two weeks after treatment.Of course, not to eat hard foods or foods that can adhere to the tooth such as gummies or gum.
Good dental hygiene
It is important to practice good oral hygiene, brushing and flossing to keep the area clean and avoid infection. When using silk to clean the area, avoid pulling the thread up, always do it from the side. Of course, the appointment with the clinic for regular dental cleanings should be marked on the calendar.
Once the treatment is finished, both the restoration and the healing time, no special care is required with that tooth. Of course, if you experience intense pain lasting several days or inflammation just after the root canal, do not hesitate to call us so that we can assess the case and go to the consultation if necessary.
